A Brief History of Telemedicine and TeleHealth
The term Telehealth or digital health is widely getting popularity in response to social distancing and Stay at home orders, however, its use has been around since the 1950’s. The first and most widely recognized used of Telemedicine took place at University of Nebraska in 1959 as a way to communicate to medical students across campus; 2 yrs later a telemedicine study was conducted by the US Space Program In 1961.iy
By 1993’s (Thanks to the birth of the Internet in 1990) The American Telemedicine Association was established. Historically, Telemedicine was used in rural areas to provide access to quality medical care including specialty care such as physical therapy.
